ISO9001 – Quality Management

ISO9001 is the world’s most recognised standard for ‘Quality’ in terms of the product of service that a company delivers to its customers. Certification to ISO9001 demonstrates not only that whatever your product or service is, that it is delivered in a consistent quality manner and with commitments to reducing errors whilst increasing levels of customer satisfaction. ISO9001 is suitable for all types of organisation from sole traders to plc’s.

It is based around the Plan, Do, Check, Act Model.

ISO14001 is the International Standard that specifies a set of environmental management requirements which helps organisations develop their environmental management system. The purpose of this standard is to help all types of businesses, both manufacturers and services industries to protect the environment, to prevent pollution and to help improve their environmental performance.

ISO14001 key principles are:

  • Protecting the environment by reducing environmental impacts
  • Reducing the impact of environmental conditions on the organisation i.e. floods
  • Fulfilment of environmental compliance regulations
  • Enhancing environmental performance
  • Consideration of the environmental impact of the life cycle of the product or service

Originally formed from the British Standard for occupational health and safety management systems, BS8800 and BS18001, ISO45001 is an occupational health and safety (OHS) management system specification which has been globally adopted. It has been developed by a group of certification bodies and various national standard organisations, with the intention of enabling companies to control their OHS risks whilst demonstrating their commitment to providing a safe working environment that protects its employees.

ISO45001 key principles are:

  • Consultation and participation of workers in OHS matters
  • Involvement of all personnel within the OHS management standard

ISO27001 is the world’s most recognised standard for information security. It relates to the security of all forms of information, including all types of data, documents, communications, conversations, messages, recordings and photographs. It includes everything from digital data and email to telephone conversations and printed materials. However, it should not be confused with the standard for information technology systems management ISO20001 (ITSMS).

ISO27001 key principles are:

  • Management of any form of risk to information pertaining to the company
  • Preservation of the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information that the company holds
  • Reassurance to all parties that information risks are adequately managed

ISO22301, formally known as BS25999, is the standard that relates to business continuity management. In its essence, it ensures continued business operations in the event of a disruption, whether due to a major disaster or a minor incident.

  • The ability to manage disruptive incidents (i.e. flood, fire, loss of key personnel, IT failure, product recall, moving premises)

ISO 50001 is an international standard that specifies requirements for an energy management system (EnMS). It is based on the management system model of continual improvement.

The ISO50001 standard provides a systematic approach to reducing energy consumption, increasing sustainability and complying with regulations such as the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).
